Breckenridge, CO
Everyone’s prayers to Ullr came true!
We woke up the next morning to about 6 inches of fresh powder and it continued to snow all day, totaling about 18 inches on the mountain. Although it’s still early in the season, it’s been pretty dry for all of Colorado and the snow was needed!
To save money on lift tickets, Mike and I would ski the mornings and Barb and Mark would ski afternoons. It worked really well and little time was wasted during the hand-off since we were staying right on the mountain. The only downside was that we weren’t able to actually all ski together at the same time :(.
After our first morning of skiing, Mike and I walked down to witness the polar plunge into a small pond in town! People take the plunge to appease Ullr in the hope for more snow. We opted for a hot tub plunge instead.
I was still feeling under the weather so I decided to try something that you can’t find everywhere - IV fluids and vitamins! I got a liter of saline with vitamin B12, B complex, and glutathione, the mother of all antioxidants! I didn’t feel much different after the treatment except that I had to pee really bad right away!
That night we decided to order some food and eat in with a nice crackling fire!
The next morning I woke up to a horrible headache and sinus pressure and realized I was definitely battling a sinus infection. So the IV fluids didn’t help but at least I was able to rule out dehydration or altitude sickness as a cause for not feeling so good. My dad came to the rescue and I was able to get a prescription for some antibiotics!
Since I was feeling sick we decided to switch the ski schedule and I slept in while Barb and Mark skied the morning. I was on the fence about hitting the slopes in the afternoon, but when Barb and Mark got back they raved about the blue sky and great runs...I went for it and was not sorry!
That evening we went to dinner at a spot we had been eying since finding it earlier in the week - The Dredge. The restaurant is a two-million-pound floating replica of one of the county’s largest and longest operating gold dredges. We had lots of laughs and delicious food. At home we indulged in Mark’s special hot chocolate with bailey’s which hit the spot (Merlin wasn't allowed to have any!)
On our last full day in Breck, Mike and Mark skied the morning together and I went out and met up with Mike to ski the afternoon!
We ordered pizza and then we went down to the hotel arcade to play a little Iceball (Skeeball’s step-sister) and pop-a-shot! We had a blast! Mike and I won an Iceball face-off and cashed in our tickets for some funny teeth.
As all great things must come to and end, the next morning we said our goodbyes and headed off for Steamboat Springs.
