Nashville, TN to Memphis, TN

The morning of Sat Jan 6 we enjoyed a big breakfast at the Hopsmith Tavern, loaded the car back up and decided to let Merlin run around at the Centennial Park dog park before saying goodbye to Bob and making our way to Memphis.  

The drive to Memphis was our shortest driving day and went relatively quickly.  When we got into the city limits we headed to Overton Bark in one of the big parks of Memphis and Merl tired himself out once again. To our pleasant surprise, the temperature had risen a few degrees since Memphis and we finally started to thaw out for the first time since leaving NJ!

We stayed at a La Quinta in downtown Memphis, and before checking in we did a short driving tour of the neon lights of Beale Street and the downtown scene.  A fun part of downtown Memphis is the Peabody Hotel where its resident flock of ducks walks through the lobby each day at 11am and 5pm! Unfortunately we weren’t able to catch a glimpse of this march - maybe next time. 

After checking in and resting up a little we decided to try the Second Line restaurant in Overton Square for dinner.  We grabbed a couple seats at the bar where we were greeted by friendly bartenders and a nice cocktail.  When it came time to order I was a little worried that most of the items were fried and my notoriously weak stomach doesn’t handle oil very well.  We decided to split a dinner salad and a fried catfish po'boy. The food came out and was absolutely delicious! The fried catfish was incredibly soft and flaky and served on pillowy bread - not at all the greasy messy sandwich I was expecting! 

After dinner we walked around Overton square a bit and passed over the busy and packed hot spots such as Lafayette’s and Bar Louie for drinks at a smaller bar before heading back to the hotel for the night with plans to wake up early and check out Graceland!
